I'm a big fan of the Museum of Science and have been for 30 years. Growing up in the Boston area the museum was an annual school field trip that I always looked forward to. Highlights 30 years ago included a space capsule with lots of switches where kids could play and the life size tyrannosaurus. That dinosaur is still one of my favorites. As an adult I appreciate their numerous fixed exhibits and and special exhibits which include:
* Daily educationally oriented live animal shows.
* Big Dig Exhibit
* Butterfly Exhibit- Its really cool and surpassed my expectations
* Body Worlds II
* Planetarium and Laser shows
* Omni Theater
Also I have recently discovered what a great place the Museum of Science of Science is for small kids. Children love running up and down a musical staircase which chimes a different note with each step.
Then there is the Museum's Discovery Center which is completely organized for 1-5 year olds. Highlights of the Discovery Center include:
* Art projects
* Story Telling
* Water Table
* Pneumatic tubes for sending messages and object across the room through tubing structure
* And more
The staff at the Museum of Science is friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. The is especially true in the Discovery Center.
Even the food at the Museum is quite good and includes a Wolfgang Puck's, Mexican, Boston Fish Market and a Mexican Place. Wolfgang Puck's is consistently the best of the three.
Zagat's has recently rated the Museum of Science a top 50 attraction in the US and it is clear to my why. I decided to become a member this year (Its about $100 and pays for itself in 2-3 visits with a family of four). If you are visiting Boston or looking for a good place to bring your kids anytime, put the Museum of Science on top of your list.
