As I stood in line, my irritation increasing with each person coming in after me getting seated, I knew it is for restaurants like this that review sites exist. Especially review sites that support entering reviews via a handheld PDA like my treo 700p. Yes we had reservations, but they seemed irrelevant in a world where some hidden signal dictated order of seating. Now I had no problem with the front desk seating those who due to physical limitations required rapid attention, but that clearly was not every one of the five parties. In the end it took fully 15 minutes to get seated.
The brunch menu is at or above what you'd expect from a hotel restaurant. It included seven grain porridge, oatmeal, elk with eggs, oysters, satsuma salad, pear salad, bouillabase, various egg dishes and lox plate. To her credit the waitress was attentive and prompt. The brewed and french press coffee were good.
By the same proportion that the front desk under performs, the cooks over perform. The boulliabase was beautiful and subtle with a well balanced broth that of course used saffron. The oatmeal was average, but the warm milk, perfectly toasted filberts, and dried fruit surprised.
Service was well paced, although the bread was rather late.
