Sanborn's is a nice little breakfast place in South East Portland. It rarely seems crowded which is odd as the food is pretty good. Their variations on the classic German pancake are worth a try. They offer a traditional version stuffed with apples, sugar, and cinnamon. More interesting variations involve pears (my favorite), mango, or kiwi. The waffles are above average, though not extraordinary, although the blueberry compote server with them was very nice, with lot of plump, whole blueberries.
The omelettes are interesting, hewing to the baked style resulting in fluffy, light omelet that rises in the oven. The omelettes are stuffed with fairly standard ingredients, but the quality is good. The artichoke hearts were reasonable, and didn't suffer from the off taste that seems to dog the canned variety.
The sausage and bacon are both excellent quality. Coffee is great and the service is as well. Definitely recommended for a good breakfast in Portland.
