I've been using Devers for about 3 years now in Portland. They are a reliable if not outstanding organization. I haven't had any negative experiences with them, and my only reservation is a gut feel in terms of how they stack up to my preferred provider (Mountain View Optometry and Dr. K Schwederer). I just don't get the same vibe of extraordinary expertise and competence.
My typical requirement for an ophthalmologist is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, but I had trouble finding active doctors taking patients in Portland that met this requirement. Devers was recommended, and I have no real complaints.
Again from a relative perspective the equipment and facilities are fine, but not as impressive as what I was used to in California. Dr. Rice is a fine doctor, and I haven't had any trouble scheduling appointments (which can be a real chore for specialist of any ilk). Prescription refills were timely and uneventful (although it still seems strange to leave a message on their machine inquiring about a refill, and then hearing back a couple of days later that it's refilled, all without actually talking to a human or specifying how many pairs of contacts to order).
Devers is certainly work considering if their NW location is convenient for you...
