The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is an outstanding destination for a Caribbean vacation. I have traveled a fair amount through the Bahamas and Caribbean and definitely recommend Saint Kitts and Nevis as great islands.
What makes the nation is a combination of 3 factors:
1. The people
2. Island geography/natural beauty
3. Value
And let us not forget... its the Caribbean.
What makes the people so great is that the local Kinittians are far more friendly and good natured than other islands. Those local to St. Kitts and Nevis are very proud of their homeland and truly want you to enjoy it as much as they do. As such they are helpful to tourists asking for questions, advice and even directions. Likewise the island is extremely safe. I frequently went for walks by myself at off resort. This is something that I would not advise on many islands like Jamaica.
Located in the Leeward island chain, southwest of Puerto Rico, the island has a wonderful geography. While Saint Kitts is one of many dramatically hilly Caribbean islands resulting from volcanic activity, there is something special about St Kitts. St. Kitts contains a tremendous natural rain forest complete with Monkeys. The island is amazingly green and the natural greenery and rain forest run right up to the beaches making the island particularly beautiful. The views from St Kitts are tremendous as nearby islands including Nevis, Saint Barths and Saint Martin. Perhaps the best way to enjoy the beauty of this island is the famous hike up
Mount Liamuiga. This dormant volcano stands 3000 feet tall and is surrounded by rain forest.
Lastly Saint Kitts and Nevis are seemingly among the best vacation values in the Caribbean. Tourism is relatively new to the islands, as such demand is lower here than more well knows spots like nearby St. Barths and St. Martin. In addition, Saint Kitts has a good airport infrastructure. Therefore these islands are less expensive to travel to and more affordable to stay on.
There is also lots to do on the island including, beaches, golf, great restaurants (Ottley's Plantation, Rawlin's Plantation, Marshall's and more), hiking, snorkeling and Scuba.
If you are looking for a Caribbean vacation and want something off the beaten' path give some serious consideration to St. Kitts and Nevis. While you may be the first of your friends to visit Saint Kitts and Nevis, you will not be the last.
