Alpine Meadows ski resort is a great laid back resort for beginners, intermediates, aspiring experts. There are enough challenging runs at Alpine Meadows that local area experts will be sure to visit Alpine several times per year for variety from other areas like Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl. But again Alpine Meadows is the place of choice for Intermediates.
Alpine offers 2400 acres of terrain with a summit peak of 8,637 feet. The base is 6,835 so skiers get in the area of 2,000 vertical. The mountain is well serviced by 13 lifts including one high speed detachable six person chair-lift.
The conditions at Alpine are probably the best in the Sierra Nevada. Alpine is located right next to Squaw Valley, but tends to get a bit more annual snowfall with 495 inches. Likewise, the terrain is a bit more protected than Squaw so that the snow is not quite as wind blown. That's not to say its wind free.
The Alpine rates its runs as:
* 25% Easy
* 40% Intermediate
* 35% Expert
The Alpine trail may will show several double black diamond runs off of Scotts Chair, Sherwood (glades area) and Upper Saddle. While this terrain is not for beginners, none of these runs are fabled as famous runs like Moseley's run at Squaw, Cirque at Whistler or Corbets Coulior at Jackson Hole. Beyond Scott, Sherwood and Upper Saddle skiers of all levels will be comfortable all over Alpine Meadows.
Also convenient is the fact that Alpine Meadows is situated in close proximity to other ski areas like Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl and Northstar making Alpine Meadows an excellent week long destination.
